We are so excited to have guest author, Shannon Lockwood, who shares her informative tips on children at weddings.

One of the most dreaded times for parents of little children is wedding season. As invitations and save-the-dates flood our mailboxes and plaster our fridges, our minds immediately wander to how we are going to wrangle the kids into sitting still and being quiet for any length of time. While weddings are stressful ordeals for parents, brides and grooms can make a few of the following simple adjustments to their big day to include and entertain even the littlest guests so everyone is happy and enjoying the festivities.

10 Ways to Keep Children Happy During a Wedding or Reception

Create wedding BINGO. Many children find ceremonies long and boring. Keep them engaged by designing a wedding game featuring items, people, and parts of the ceremony into a game resembling BINGO. When a child notices or finds an item, they can color or cross off the square. At the end of the wedding, a child can hand in a completed game sheet for a prize.

Design a coloring book featuring the couple. Keep kids quiet and involved by creating black and white versions of your favorite photos. Look online for apps or use a basic paint program to adjust your images into a printable color book. Make sure to add captions that tell your love story.

Set out child friendly foods to keep hunger at bay and prevent hangry kids from ruining the reception. Weddings are notorious for long buffet lines or stagnant breaks in between the receptions, cocktail hour, and dinner. Avoid meltdowns by supplying snack mixes, meat and cheese trays, and veggie dippers for hungry munchers.

Light it up. Purchase glow-in-the-dark bracelets, glow sticks, light up balloons, and other fun gadgets to make dancing the night away a lot more fun.
