Brooklyn NY Wedding

This New York summer wedding began with bride and groom preparations at the iconic Wyeth Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Brooke made a truly stunning bride and her and her bridesmaids stopped city traffic as she made her way to say "I do" at St. Cecilia's Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Once married, the couple held the reception at the Brooklyn Winery surrounded by family, friends and non-stop laughter.

Brooke and David had known of each other distantly for years throughout grade school, and had several friends in common by the time they started dating the summer between junior and senior year of high school in Darien, Connecticut. One night at a friend's house while out by the pool, David playfully pushed Brooke into the water. In order to get even with him, Brooke sat next to him to get him wet as well, and began talking.  What started out as a typical high school summer love became much more as the couple's relationship evolved into a true love story over the next ten years.

With family and friends coming together from Darien, Greenwich, Boston, San Francisco, and the Groom's family from their native Spain, the wedding day reflected their diverse family personalities with many personal touches. They are a low key couple and hired me to capture the "genuine interactions taking place."  Representing the only time all those they care about gathered in one place was the most important reason they chose to have a full, traditional wedding.

The day began at the Wythe hotel, where the Manhattan views of the Empire State Building across New York's East River are just perfect!

The bride's shoes are often the final detail of the getting-ready process. These delicate lace confections contrasted the rugged geometry of the hotel windows and the view to Manhattan.

The Wythe Hotel has the most beautiful wallpaper, a gorgeous nouveau toile with a delicate tribute to scenes found in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, created by Dan Funderburgh.

Funderburgh's "Williamsburg Renaissance" wallpaper was the perfect bridal backdrop for me to photograph Brooke's portraits.

Dan Funderburgh's Cordage wallpaper also provided a fantastic backdrop for the groomsmen's preparations.

During the ceremony, several integrations of US and Spanish customs were made. The most notable of which was the Spanish tradition called "lasarras", where the bride and groom swap 13 coins to symbolize unity and mutual trust.

The interior of Brooklyn Winery is a treasure trove for a variety of fantastic photographic backdrops. Although we only had a few minutes, I wished I could have photographed inside for hours!

They arrived at the Brooklyn Winery with colorful reception decor thoughtfully put together by the groom's father, who personally grew and arranged all of the gerbera daisies and roses for the tables, which were set with beautifully delicate china. One of the many personal touches that made Brooke and David's wedding day extra special were the hand written place cards made with love by Maid of Honor Megan. All of the guests went home with a bottle of wine with Brooke and David's custom wine label.
